With much of the original structure retained, this 18th Century Flour Mill has been converted into a renowned Dinner Theatre. Patrons enjoy a fresh home-cooked meal – with not a microwave in sight! – before watching the performance in the 215 seat air conditioned auditorium.

Pre-dinner drinks with a view of The Thames or watching the working Waterwheel in the bar, is an added treat.

Having visited Sonning these past few Januarys to enjoy their Winter Musical we are, for the first time, treated to a Summer Musical. The Mill has announced they will be producing the legendary Gypsy, the story of the burlesque performer Gypsy Rose Lee and her ultimate showbiz mother, Rose. Rose has ambitions for her two daughters, and we follow her dreams and efforts to push them to stardom. New York Theatre critic Clive Barnes wrote that “Gypsy is one of the best of musicals…”.

With a fabulous score by Jules Style and clever lyrics from Stephen Sondheim, including the memorable songs Let Me Entertain You, Everything’s Coming Up Roses, You Gotta Have a Gimmick, Some People and All You Need Is The Girl, Gypsy is sure to follow in the footsteps of their previous musical productions and prove a massive hit.

The Mill is lucky to have some great creatives for their musicals. This production will be created by the team that brought us both My Fair Lady and Singin’ In The Rain – Director Joseph Pitcher and Musical Director Francis Goodhand. Once again, we are promised to be astounded at what can be achieved on the Mill’s bijou stage. A real treat, not to be missed!

A few years ago for our Summer trip to Sonning, in an attempt to avoid heavy traffic, we started leaving earlier taking in the beautiful town of Henley-on-Thames en-route. Having proved popular ever since, we will do the same again next July. Just under 30 minutes from Sonning, we will travel to Henley and have a stop-off for between 1-2 hours, traffic depending of course, before leaving in plenty of time to enjoy a pre-dinner drink in the theatre’s Waterwheel bar if we so wish. This is followed by a leisurely two course dinner which precedes the evening performance. Perfect!!
